LHC Shut Down Until Next Year - Enjoy the LHC Rap While You Wait

A mini black hole was created and destroyed part of the LHC! The end is nigh!

Not quite. But I regret to inform you deviants the the LHC will be out of commission until Spring of 2009. So we are going to have to wait yet again to recreate the birth of our universe. The exact cause of the shutdown was created by a helium leak into the tunnel. Helium is used to cool down CERN’s tools that record the particle smashing. CERN has stated that, “The most likely cause of the leak was a faulty electrical connection between two of the accelerator’s giant magnets.”

Very unfortunate indeed. This is a big a psychological blow to the scientists at CERN as well. Pretty demoralizing. But something of this magnitude needs the utmost care and concern. This experiment is going to make or break our Standard Model of physics. That’s a pretty big deal. If you are still having problems wrapping your brain around what exactly is going on with the LHC… check out this scientist rap. Brilliant if you ask me. It completely explains everything you wanted to know about it. It’s pretty catchy too. Stay Deviant.
